Root Canal Treatment in Greenwich: Root Canal Treatment, to Save Your Tooth
By clearing infected or inflamed tissue from inside the tooth, then cleaning and sealing it, root canal treatment lets you keep your own tooth. With local anaesthetic, it feels very similar to having a filling.
From £590 for a front tooth to £790 for a molar, or £531 to £711 for dental plan members.2
Signs You May Need One
Some teeth give no warning, and the problem is only found on an X-ray at a dental examination.
Lingering Toothache
Throbbing pain, pain that keeps you awake, or pain that returns for no clear reason.
Sensitivity to Hot
Hot food or drinks keep hurting after you've swallowed.
Pain When You Bite
The tooth feels tender when you chew or press on it.
Swelling or a Gum Boil
The gum beside the tooth swells, or a small spot appears on it.
A Darkening Tooth
After a knock, the tooth goes grey or darker.
Deep Decay or a Crack
Damage that has spread into the nerve or very near it.
How It Works
Usually one or two visits.
Examination and X-Ray
We pin down the cause and talk you through the options and the fee before any treatment.
Cleaning the Canals
Once the tooth is numb, we remove the infected tissue, then clean and shape the canals. If the tooth is very painful, we dress it first and complete the treatment at a second visit.
Sealing and Restoring
We fill the canals and seal them. The tooth is then rebuilt with a filling, or with an onlay or crown for most back teeth.
Root Canal or Extraction?
Saving your own tooth is usually the better choice, and over time it costs less than removing and replacing it.
After Treatment
Does It Last?
Root canal treatment succeeds in most cases, and with a good restoration the tooth can go on for decades. Back teeth generally need an onlay or crown afterwards so they don't crack.
When an old root filling fails, re-treatment can often save the tooth. Repeat treatment is from £100. Where a tooth is complex, your dentist may recommend a scan on our on-site CT scanner to see the canals in 3D.
An infected tooth can't be cured by antibiotics on their own. We prescribe them only when infection is spreading, and even then the tooth must still be treated.
Fees
We confirm the fee in a written plan before treatment begins. Dental plan members save 10%.2
