Is Whitening Worth It?
The fees for Boutique and Enlighten in Greenwich, what you get for each, how to choose between them, and how professional whitening stacks up against cheaper alternatives.
What Does Teeth Whitening Cost in Greenwich, and Is It Worth Paying For?
Peninsula Dentists on Greenwich Peninsula offers two professional systems. Boutique home whitening costs £350, or £315 on a dental plan, and is included in every Invisalign and composite bonding package. Enlighten costs £650 and pairs two weeks of home trays with a practice visit to reach a guaranteed B1 shade. Either fee covers a dental examination, trays made from a digital scan, the gel and a review, and the trays stay with you for top-ups. For anyone wanting naturally lighter teeth it is good value: dentist-led whitening is the only safe, legal route, and the result typically lasts a year or longer.
Whitening Prices in Greenwich
| Option | Fee |
|---|---|
| Boutique home whitening | £350 |
| Boutique, dental plan price | £315 |
| Enlighten, guaranteed B1 | £650 |

Nothing is added on top. The examination, the scan and the review sit inside the fee, and you keep the trays.2 Extra gel for top-ups is sold at the practice, and reception can tell you the current price. By comparison, the practices around Greenwich and SE London we checked in October 2026 charge about £295 to £499 for home whitening, typically £395 to £499, and £645 to £750 for Enlighten.
What You Get for the Fee
- A dental examination first. Dr Pei looks for decay, gum disease and cracks, all of which are treated before any whitening, and records restorations that will not change colour.
- Close-fitting trays. Made from an iTero Element scan instead of putty, so the gel stays on the enamel and away from the gums.
- Prescription-strength gel, with a clear routine for how much to apply and how long to wear it.
- Your starting shade noted, so the improvement can be measured.
- A review appointment to assess the result and plan how to keep it.
- For Enlighten, an in-practice finishing session after the two home weeks, backed by the B1 guarantee.
- Trays that stay with you for later top-ups.

Boutique or Enlighten: Which Is Worth It?
Both are professional systems with custom trays, and both lighten the tooth itself. The difference is in how predictable the end point is.
- Boutique suits most people. It is the lower fee, it is flexible about how and when you wear the trays, and yellowish teeth usually respond well over two to three weeks. The result varies from person to person, so we show you a realistic target first rather than promising a shade.
- Enlighten costs more and asks more of you: two weeks of consistent home wear, then a visit to the practice to finish. In return it guarantees B1, the lightest of the natural shades on the standard dental shade guide. It suits people who want the brightest natural result with certainty, or whose earlier whitening disappointed.
Dr Pei will tell you at the consultation which is the better fit for your teeth, including whether they are suitable for the Enlighten guarantee.
Worth It, or Are Cheaper Options Enough?
It comes down to the problem. If your teeth are dulled by surface stain from coffee, tea or cigarettes, a Diamond Smile Clean with Airflow at £134, and an occasional whitening toothpaste, may be all you need; neither changes the tooth's underlying colour.
If the teeth themselves are yellower or darker than you want, only whitening will lighten them, and only a dental professional may legally provide it. Over-the-counter kits may contain no more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide, which restricts them to surface staining. Salon and kiosk whitening by unregistered staff is against UK law, and the gels involved are frequently ineffective, unlawful or damaging. Professional whitening uses gel within the 6% legal limit, in trays made for you, after a dentist has confirmed it is suitable. Compared with bonding or veneers, it is the least invasive cosmetic treatment there is, since the tooth is neither built up nor reduced.
What Affects the Result
- Where you start. Yellowish teeth lighten most easily. Grey tones are slower, and one tooth that has darkened because its nerve has died may need another approach.
- Restorations. Fillings, bonding, crowns and veneers do not change.
- Sticking to the routine. Missed sessions lengthen the course, and Enlighten depends on wearing the trays consistently for the full two weeks.
- Sensitivity. Shorter sessions or a night off may be needed, which slows progress a little without changing the end result.
- What happens next. Coffee, tea, wine and tobacco return stain more quickly.
Responses vary, so we agree a realistic target with you beforehand, and if whitening is not the right treatment for your teeth, we will tell you.
How Long It Lasts
Usually a year or longer, and sometimes several years, depending mainly on diet and smoking. Because the trays are yours, a few evenings with fresh gel restore the colour without buying another course, and polishing at hygiene visits deals with surface staining between top-ups. Measured against how long it lasts, the fee works out at very little per month for a change people notice. Our guide to keeping teeth white covers the habits that stretch the result further.
What Whitening Will Not Change
Restorations keep their colour, so if you have fillings, bonding, crowns or veneers on the teeth that show, we will discuss whether they should be refreshed afterwards, priced separately. Shape and position are unaffected too: chips and gaps call for bonding, and crowding for Invisalign. Both packages already include Boutique whitening, and with bonding the whitening is done first so the composite is matched to your new shade; our whitening before bonding guide explains why. Finally, whitening is not offered to under-18s except to treat or prevent disease, nor during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Ways to Spread or Reduce the Cost
Whitening by itself falls below the £1,500 threshold for Chrysalis Finance, but it can be included when it sits within a larger plan like Invisalign or a bonding package. On a dental plan, Boutique drops to £315 and Enlighten to £585, and both plans cover Airflow hygiene visits that keep your new shade looking fresh. Plan A costs £24.10 monthly and Plan B £40.16 monthly, so if you were planning regular cleans as well as whitening, compare the totals.
